— No more “Over the Hill” Stories
“I believe there is an athlete in all of us…waiting to come (back) out to play.” ~TMack, Aging into Awesome Advocate and Creator
The “How it all began” story…
Hi, I’m TMack. Actually, my name is Tara Mack and I go by “TMack” and I almost drowned in the winter just before my 5th birthday. Yes, you read that right, I almost drowned in the winter. I was sledding in our backyard and broke through the brook at the bottom of our backyard hill and down I went- fast- in my adorable, very heavy when wet, pink snowsuit. My dad was watching through the window and raced down and scooped me up. That summer, my brother and I started swim lessons at our local pool and because I loved following what he and others were doing, I kept on swimming right through college at the University of Miami.
I took seven years off after swimming D1 and realized quickly that I had no clue how to eat for health as I always ate to feed the calorie deficit of a 40 hour a week athlete. I also noticed that someone had “shrunk my fat pants”- how rude! And after I started teaching and coaching and burning every end of every candle I realized I wanted to be back in the pool myself, so I joined US Masters Swimming and haven’t stopped swimming since.
I did, however, have some bumps and hindrances along the way, so I wound up swimming to “maintain pant size” and gave up ideas of racing again as my body felt like all of its parts’ warranties had run out on the same dang day. I would have paid extra for the extended warranties by the way! I felt like I had too much “jiggle in my wiggle” and though I appeared to be doing well, I wasn’t sleeping and I was struggling to find much joy in my day to day life.
After finding a nutritional plan and system that literally changed my body from the inside out I was lit up! I got back to PT, actually went to a chiropractor that I had been so fearful of for so long, and also found pelvic floor PT. If you’ve never heard of that, you deserve to know! All of these added up to my returning to diving and racing and working harder in the water and I haven’t stopped chasing down failure while going for success. Yes, I chase failure. I realize it may sound crazy and icky and all kinds of other adjectives, but it has made all the difference in living a full life with a freedom in my soul and a light in my heart that I never knew existed let alone went out. I invite you to reach out to me and we can discuss goals and a plan to have you back on your own path and “Aging into Awesome” in your own way. I believe we are better together and am honored to be a guide for you if it turns out that we are the ‘right fit’. If we aren’t, I’ll do my best to recommend who or what I believe may be best for you right now.
Looking forward to getting to know you and when that light is turned back on, I’m also here to coach your athletic pursuits that you too may have put down on a shelf thinking they were over…they’re not and they don’t have to be! Dust them off and let’s get to it!
